Sparrow…

Sparrow or white-eye?

A small bird crossed the sidewalk.

Rare occasion these days.

  1. Doug Thomas says:

Birders in North America refer to the many confusing small passerines as “little brown jobs”. The aide of a good pair of binoculars answers the question, for exampl: house sparrow or white-crowned sparrow? The answer often seems so obvious when one can see the field marks of each species. Those two can’t be mistaken close up, nor can any of the other “little brown jobs” one sees in the field, yet they all look the same far away!
