Lilacs in full bloom

On the roadside scent is lost

Far from their homeland

When I first experienced the scent of the lilacs when I was student in the US, I felt as if I had been sliding into a different world. A few years ago I found lilacs planted alongside the sidewalk here. Since then I’ve noticed them fully in bloom in spring, but no scent was felt. They lost their full quality to me.

    And, I don’t even like lilacs…
